The Taj Mahal in Agra
The Taj Mahal (meaning Crown Palace) is one of the most visited monuments in India and the world. It is located in the city of Agra. Its architectural beauty has allowed him to be ranked among the seven wonders of the world.
It is 1631, during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the construction was started in 1648 to complete the engraving done by next to the main entrance. The Taj Mahal is not a palace (despite its name), but a mausoleum. The Emperor ordered its construction in memory of his wife Arjumand Banu Begam.
It was a gigantic project that lasted for 16 years where he had mobilized more than 20,000 workers and 1,000 elephants. Lédifice design was awarded to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri the province of Lahore (currently Pakistan).
The mausoleum is built mostly with white marble which currently tends to yellow due to pollution. It is based on a platform of black and white tiles and a terrace of white marble with a blue veining. The whole rests on two huge slabs. In four of the building copins find minarets.
